What Do I Call This?? Before and After

Happy Friday!

Follow me on Facebook and Instagram!  I post lots of great sneak peeks there.

I picked this just awful cabinet up.  I have this curse where I am blind to the facts of what something really is and only see the potential.  Curse.  I have no idea what this is, was, used to be, etc.  But I thought it was pretty cool!!  It had crusty paint, cat puke (I think), mice poo, evidence of mice nests, LOTS of spiders, dirt, grease, and pretty much anything else horrible you could think of sitting in a dirty garage for years.

Before I took any of the before pictures, I actually cleaned it up a little with some vacuuming and light sanding to remove the nasty crusty stuff.

A little broken, pieces missing, all needing to be fixed and replaced.

Let the sanding begin.  I started with the top.  The entire thing, except the shelf, was covered with so much paint and gunk.  It was hard to tell what was underneath.  I really love the look of wood tones with some paint, no matter what the color is.  It gives it such a nice contrast and I feel like I’m being equal to people who DO NOT like furniture pieces all painted.  But the fact is, paint sells.  Also, the wood tops are least scratch resistant and the finish holds up very nicely.

I really couldn’t believe what I was looking at once I started getting more and more paint off of this ‘thing’.  The wood has such a unique grain in it.  I really is neat to look at.  But, too much needed to be fixed, filled, and replaced, I didn’t really have a choice but to paint over this to blend everything in.

Are you ready for the after?!

The top turned out amazing, like I was hoping it would.

I added wire baskets for these pictures, because wouldn’t this be the prefect coffee table for a game room?!  So much space and storage!   IMG_0596 IMG_0599

You can purchase the tin caddy here.  Great for tabletop accessories.

I love distressing pieces like this when there is detail that you really want to pop out.

I hope you love it!  Now onto my next project!

As seen on My Repurposed Life Link Party!

  1. WOW! I’m in love with this. What an incredible transformation and a real beauty. Thanks so much for sharing at Talk of the Town. Featuring tonight on my FB page:-)

  2. Came out really nice! I tend to pick up junky falling apart pieces, and paint definitely revives the areas that are too much of a pain to fix.
