Wedding Trends for 2016

Awh, a new year.  A new season.  In need of new ideas.  Every year, some blog comes out with the ‘new colors’ or ‘new trends’.  We have a strong 2016 already started with many beautiful brides and grooms starting the full blown wedding planning.  As a wedding event rental company, I thought I would share the hottest items that either are most requested or rented the most often for 2016.

I started my rental company on a whim that people kept telling me to.  Yes, really.  My husband and I got married and had a full out DIY wedding.  Everything had a meaning, there was no Pinterest, but I wanted everyone relaxed and included.  Afterwards, people commented so much and suggesting I should be doing just that, planning(renting out) our wedding items along with other items I refinished throughout the year.

And our little rental business idea had been planted.  Every year our inventory grows, and grows, and GROWS!  It does change though as well.  Some items fade out and it’s time to out with the old and in with the new.

Here is my list of what I think is HOT this year.

1.Wood Dining Tables.  This trend has been here and rising.  What’s so great about the wood tables, is there really isn’t a need for much decorating.  The tables speak for themselves.  No renting, cleaning, or folding linens either.

2.Mismatched Dinnerware. All of your grandma’s plates that got sold at the estate sale, are now making a come back!  And the mismatched is just adding character and a casual feeling.

3.Big Real Flowers.  Yep, I’ve seen them already and real flowers are making their way back in a BIG way!  And I love it!  People are picking up bulk flowers from local farm growers/farmers markets, or Costco/Sam’s Club.

4.Casual Seating Areas  10 Years ago, we usually only saw this in lavish weddings.  Not anymore!

5.Extra Food.  Pizzas, popcorn, pies….  Lots of extra late night foods are showing up after the dinners.  Food trucks are making their way into this trend as well.

6.New Lighting.  The lighting is all the rage right now.  Everything from beautiful chandeliers to hanging light bulbs.  Slowly the Christmas lights are making their way out but are a perfect inexpensive way to light up outside.

8. Unique Seating.  The ceremony and reception are both in this category.  With the increase of outdoor ceremonies, comes in increase with seating options.  The standard fold up chairs are becoming more and more less of the options that the couples want.  The mixture of chairs, benches, hay bales are making their way to the ‘I do’s’.

9. Wood Accents.  Centerpieces, wood sign in boards, wood games, wood cupcake stands, the list goes on and on!  I have to say I LOVE it!  What a great way to add not only character but I feel like wood tones brings such a warm ambiance.   Here are a few of my favorites and what’s very trendy right now.

10. Sweetheart Tables.  Oh yes, the bride, the groom.  In perfect focus for pictures and smooches!  With traditional weddings fading, the smaller weddings are forming more with less stress for family by not having bridemaids or groomsmen.  Or maybe there is, but the couple is letting them all sit with their families.  Whatever their reasoning, the sweatheart tables are coming in to play.  And these few look fabulous!
